If your teen’s feelings are overwhelming, persistent, and impacting school and relationships, it’s important to seek support. Please speak to any BDHS staff who can help refer to school-based social work services. It’s free, voluntary and confidential.

 

In School Mental Health Supports

 

  1. School Social Work:

     

    • Short term confidential mental health counselling that can be offered at school as well as virtual/telephone options
    • School Social Worker: Larissa Broadbent (Room 221 Monday - Thursday)
    • Referral through guidance

       

  2.  Mental Health and Addictions Nurse:

     

    • Short term support related to a recent hospitalization, self-harming behaviours, thoughts of suicide, medication issues, eating disorders and substance use struggles
    • Referral through guidance or hospital

       

  3. Adolescent Outreach Program (New Path):
  • Counselling and life skill development addressing challenges with social relationships, mood or behaviour
  • Referral through guidance

Thoughts of suicide

Ask for help if you are having thoughts of suicide or harming yourself. There is always hope, and there are people ready and wanting to help. Tell a caring adult that you need help. If you need immediate assistance, listed below are some options:

  • Call 9-1-1 to request an ambulance (request a mental health professional be sent who understands my culture)
