For June 2020 graduates, the Ministry of Education has reduced the number of volunteer hours required for graduation to 20.
In addition, the Ministry has indicated that students may count 10 hours from a part-time job towards the 20 required hours. Students needing to use hours from a part time job, must bring a pay stub, or evidence of this work to Guidance.
Potential graduates need to bring evidence of their 20 hours to guidance ASAP.
Every student is required to complete 40 hours of community involvement in order to receive his/her diploma. Students can start accumulating community involvement hours in the summer before they enter Grade 9.
The purpose is to encourage students to developp an understanding of the various roles they can play in their community and to help them develop a greater sense of belonging
Some students may wish to complete more than 40 hours. Contact Guidance for more information about eligible activities and the process of recording your community involvement hours.
