Parental Involvement

Parental involvement is important to student success. Below you will find information that will help you to help your student do their best at BDHS.

Individual Education Plan (IEP)

Individual Education Plans (IEPs) are learning and teaching plans developed for students who learn in a different way or at a different rate than their classmates. This written record outlines a child’s individual program and helps parents, guardians and teachers track the student’s progress and plan next steps in learning.

View the Simcoe County District School Board brochure on the Individual Education Plan.

The Identification, Placement, and Review Committe (IPRC)

Exceptional pupils are identified as such by an Identification, Placement, and Review Committee (IPRC). Upon receiving a written request from a student’s parent(s)/guardian(s), the principal of the school must refer the student to an IPRC. The IPRC will decide whether the student is an exceptional pupil and, if so, what type of educational placement is appropriate. The principal may also, on written notice to the parent(s)/guardian(s), refer the student to an IPRC.

View the Simcoe County District School Board Parents’ Guide to Special Education.

Waivers will be sent out yearly to students who have had an IPRC. By signing the waiver you agree to continue the special education program that was assigned to your child by the IPRC.

If your child has had an IPRC then you will have received an IPRC waiver. Please sign and return it to room 112 as soon as possible.

Assistive Technology Resources

Tumblebooks is an online resource that can be accessed from home that has thousands of catalogued books ranging in interest and reading level.  Tumblebooks allows students to read the text on the screen or have the text read to them.  This resource is free for students attending BDHS.  Please contact the Special Education Department or the Librarian for the user name and password.

ReadPlease is a simple online resource that can be downloaded for free.  Students can copy and paste any text into the program and have it read to them.  This is ideal for students to proof read work or when completing online research.
